beyond the frame (2024) Charcoal drawing by Denny Stoekenbroek

Original artwork :This drawing is a compelling and bold portrait rendered in black and white, capturing a side profile of a bearded man wearing sunglasses. The subject exudes an air of quiet confidence and strength, with his head slightly turned upward, suggesting contemplation or a sense of authority. The artwork has deep, rich shading to define the contours of the man’s head and beard, creating a strong contrast that emphasizes his features. The sharpness of the sunglasses and the fullness of the beard provide visual anchors in the portrait, while the smooth, almost polished appearance of the bald head adds a striking, reflective quality. The subtle highlights on the head and ear give a sense of dimension and realism. The background is minimalistic, with soft, textured gradients that do not distract from the subject but instead add depth to the overall composition. The use of light and shadow is particularly effective, with the subject’s dark clothing blending into the background, drawing the viewer’s focus toward the face and sunglasses. This accentuates the man’s silhouette and emphasizes the dramatic quality of the piece.Materials used:charcoal on paperTags:#portrait #man #beard #contrast #shades #strength #introspection #modernity Featured by our Editors:Best of November 2024
